Rogaine Hair Growth
By Dave Kettner
Hair loss can start for a number of different reasons, some due to heredity, and some due to other medical reasons. Unfortunately, is a progressive condition. Though medication is not guaranteed to work, it is the first line of defense in order to help prevent future balding. There are three main medical treatments for hair loss: Rogaine, Propecia, and lasers. Rogaine is a topical treatment that is applied directly to the balding area that increases circulation to the scalp, thus revitalizing miniaturized hair follicles.
Rogaine
Rogaine is a topical solution with the active ingredient Minoxidil, and is available in 2% solutions for women and 5% solutions for men. Rogaine increases the size of the follicle and promotes hair growth. For woman with hair loss, Rogaine for women is perhaps one of the most effective treatments. Treatments call for Rogaine to be applied twice a day. It is necessary to use Rogaine for about 3 to 4 months to see evidence of regrowth. Since Rogaine is FDA approved for over-the-counter use, it is much safer than other options such as Propecia.
Hair Growth
Today
on the market, there are drug products that claim hair regrowth results. But in actuality, these hair growth products only stimulate hair growth while showing little hair regrowth in only small percentage of people using a treatment. Minoxidil has been proven time and again to be an effective hair growth stimulator that can both maintain and increase scalp hair counts. Any hair regrowth is in the form of a peach-fuzz baby hair which will not necessarily look consistent with the rest of the head of hair. Upon stopping the use of the drug, any hair re-growth will fall out within 6 months.
Propecia
Propecia is an oral treatment in the form of a pill taken daily. Propecia is prescribed only for men and should not be used by women. Propecia is taken orally and has a reported 29 percent to 68 percent success rate versus a 17 percent to 40 percent rate in patients receiving a placebo (though all using the placebo eventually stopped seeing results). Rogaine prices are fairly reasonable and are much less expensive than those of Propecia. If you’re looking for ease, you’re probably better off with using Propecia.
